Outdoor Clinical Director

As the Clinical Director, you’ll guide and support a team of professional listeners, challengers, and healers who provide therapy in nature. Help maintain clinical excellence while keeping it real, grounded, and practical—just like we do in the outdoors.

    • You’re a licensed therapist with at least 7 years of experience (with 3+ in a leadership or supervisory role), and you’ve got a passion for both mental health and the great outdoors. Experience with outdoor or adventure-based therapy is a plus, but if you’re up for adapting and learning, this is your jam.

    • You’ll oversee the clinical team working in the canyons and wilderness areas surrounding Salt Lake City (City Creek, Emigration, Neffs, Big Cottonwood). Flexibility to work in an outdoor environment is key.

    • Oversee the clinical care and supervise therapists providing outdoor therapy, ensuring quality treatment and adherence to the highest ethical standards.  

    • Provide regular clinical supervision, training, and mentorship to therapists to help them grow in their practice while maintaining the integrity of our outdoor model.  

    • Foster a collaborative, supportive, and challenging environment where therapists thrive.  

    • Work with the leadership team to refine and expand our outdoor therapy model, ensuring it meets the needs of our clients and stays innovative.  

    • Champion Outdoor Talk’s mission both internally and externally, advocating for the power of nature-based therapy.  

    • Ensure that all clinical staff are adhering to ethical guidelines, licensure requirements, and organizational policies.  

    • Handle escalated client situations as needed and support therapists through challenging cases.  

    • Regularly review client feedback and therapy outcomes, making adjustments as needed to ensure maximum effectiveness.

    • Loves people, nature, and challenges.  

    • Has a Master's or Doctorate in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.  

    • Is an LPC, LCPC, LPCC, LMHC, or LCSW in the state of Utah.  

    • Has at least 7 years of clinical experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.  

    • Has experience with outdoor therapy or is willing to embrace this unique approach.  

    • Is skilled in various therapeutic techniques and has a strong foundation in evidence-based practices.  

    • Enjoys building a supportive, dynamic team and leading by example.  

    • Is proactive, adaptable, and thrives in an outdoor setting—rain or shine.  

    • Knows how to communicate effectively with staff and clients, and can keep things grounded and clear.  

    • Has the ability to work flexible hours and travel to outdoor locations.  

    • Is CPR and first aid certified (or is willing to get certified before starting).
